A man suspected of the shooting death of a Salinas teen in January was arrested in Mexico on Monday, Salinas police said. Police issued a warrant for Julio Cesar Garcia after Jorge Alberto Perez, 17, was shot and killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 52 La Posada Drive in Salinas on the afternoon of Jan. 27.
Eventually the investigation by Salinas police, the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities uncovered Garcia was in Mexicali, Mexico. He was arrested without incident there at about 9 p.m. Monday.
Garcia is a U.S. citizen and was turned over to border patrol agents and is awaiting extradition to Monterey County in El Centro, Calif.
