A 72-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash Wednesday evening in Petaluma, police said today. Officers responded to a report of a crash in the area of I Street and Petaluma Boulevard at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Giovanni Sbragia, of Petaluma, was driving south on Petaluma Boulevard when he collided with another car while making a left turn onto I Street, according to police.

The car that was hit overturned in the crash, and fire crews responded and extracted a woman who was inside, police said. She was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and was later released. Police said Sbragia was determined to be intoxicated and, after being treated at the scene for minor injuries, he was arrested.

He was taken to the Police Department, and was then cited and released to a “responsible party,” police said
