A male who threatened to hurt himself with a knife in downtown San Jose this morning surrendered to police after a four-hour standoff, a police spokeswoman said. At about 12:15 a.m. today, police received an emergency call about a person with a knife inside a car in the area of 12th and Santa Clara streets who said he wanted to harm himself, San Jose police Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Officers began to talk with him while he sat in his vehicle, and he eventually gave himself up without incident at about 4:15 a.m., Randol said. No injuries were reported, Randol said.
