An alert resident led to police arresting a fleeing suspect in Santa Cruz on Thursday, police said. Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 200 block of Chace Street Thursday, according to police. The alleged burglar, 22-year-old Ryan Sargenti, was seen by a resident attempting to enter a neighboring home through a window, police said. Sargenti was seen removing the screen from the window, then attempting to wipe his fingerprints from the window glass, according to police.
When the resident confronted Sargenti, he fled from the residence. Officers set up a perimeter and found Sargenti, who was on probation, in the neighborhood, police said. Despite having gone to his car to change his clothes, police were able to identify Sargenti as the suspect. Police credit the resident for providing a detailed description of Sargenti, which led to his arrest.
