A Watsonville man was arrested Saturday evening after he allegedly fired shots in his backyard, police said today. Police were called to 56 Lincoln Street around 5:15 p.m. by a report that the caller was being threatened by three armed men, according to Cpl. Tom Corral.

Officers arriving on the scene heard several gunshots being fired form the backyard of the home and quickly established a perimeter, thinking there had been a shooting, Corral said. They were unable to locate any gunshot victims or shooters. While there, however, a resident in the home was spotted in the backyard with a handgun. The resident then went up on to his roof, before coming back down and going back inside, Corral said.

The resident stepped outside and surrendered a short time later. Corral said investigators determined that there were no armed subjects threatening the resident, identified as Andres Navarro, 38. Navarro was arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, and the gun was confiscated.
