Police departments across Contra Costa County are holding a gun buyback today to get dangerous weapons off of the streets. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is partnering with the Antioch, Brentwood, Concord, Martinez, Pittsburg and Richmond police departments to host the buyback at three locations, according to the district attorney’s office. County residents can anonymously turn in firearms in exchange for gift cards, with a $50 gift card given for each shotgun or rifle, a $100 card for handguns and up to $200 for an assault weapon, law enforcement officials said. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds on West 10th Street in Antioch, at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord at 2000 Kirker Pass Road and at Richmond City Hall at 450 Civic Center Plaza. In March, the Pittsburg Police Department collected 291 firearms during a similar gun buyback event, according to police.
