Woman Assaulted by Man Near Santa Clara University Campus

A man assaulted a woman near the Santa Clara University campus early this morning, a police sergeant said. Police received a report of an assault in the 1000 block of Lexington Street at 1:30 a.m., about 20 minutes after the incident took place, according to Santa Clara police Sgt. Derek Rush. The altercation was brief and the woman was neither robbed nor injured, Rush said. Police attempted to tracked the suspect, described only as a possible male adult, with a canine unit but were unable to locate him, Rush said, The assault remains under investigation.
