Police have set up a perimeter around a neighborhood in East San Jose to search for a suspect in the attempted robbery of a nearby check-cashing store where shots were fired this morning, police said. At 7:48 a.m., police received an emergency call from someone reporting that a male with a gun had tried to rob a check-cashing business in the 2100 block of Story Road, police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.
The victim of the robbery attempt told police that shots were fired during the incident, Morales said. When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect had run into a nearby residential area. They blocked off parts of the neighborhood to begin searching for him, Morales said. No injuries have been reported, Morales said. The neighborhood being searched is a few blocks southeast of Interstate Highway 680.
