Woman Found Shot Dead in Motel Room After Fire, Explosion in Salinas

A woman was found shot dead in a Salinas motel Sunday morning after an explosion was heard coming from the room, according to police. Officers were called to the Willow Lodge at 719 S. Main St. shortly before 8 a.m. on a report of a gunshot, explosion and possible fire in one of the rooms, according to Cmdr. Vincent Maiorana. Police and firefighters found that a fire had been set inside a motel room and evidence of a small explosion.

The fire was small and quickly extinguished, but a dead woman was found in the room, Maiorana said. The woman appears to have been shot and the death is being investigated as a homicide, Maiorana said.
