Two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the pre-dawn burglary of a Santa Clara gun store today after the trio allegedly threw stolen guns out of their car during a police chase, Santa Clara police said. Marcus Moreno, 26, his brother Jorel, 27, and Tina Marie Guzman, 39, all of San Jose, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, resisting arrest and possession of stolen merchandise, police spokesman Sgt. Derek Rush said.
Rush said the suspects used a brick or a piece of wood to smash the front window of Reed’s Indoor Range at 1100 Duane Ave. at about 3:30 a.m., setting off the store’s silent alarm. Santa Clara police arrived at the business about three minutes later and noticed a suspicious dark-blue Honda Fit driving away, Rush said. Police pursued the Honda, which sped north on Lafayette Street, and officers watched as occupants of the car threw out bags containing stolen guns, including five handguns and two long rifles, Rush said.
The brief car chase ended less than half a mile away at Aldo Avenue, where the car stopped. Guzman, the driver, remained inside while the brothers got out and tried to run away, Rush said. Two California Highway Patrol officers assisted Santa Clara police in pursuing the men, and helped capture them a short time later, Rush said. The suspects were being interviewed this morning at the Santa Clara Police Department and later will be transferred to the Santa Clara County Main Jail, Rush said.
