Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer David Vanbuskirk Killed Trying to Rescue Hiker

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has identified the search and rescue officer that was killed during a rescue Monday night as 36-year-old David Vanbuskirk.

According to LVMPD, a call was received at about 8:50 p.m. for a stranded hiker in a remote area above Mary Jane Falls.

Vanbuskirk, who was part of LVMPD’s search and rescue team, was lowered to the hiker by helicopter.

During the rescue, Vanbuskirk became separated from the hiker and fell.

The police officer died from his injuries. The hiker was not injured during the rescue.
