Four men fired shots at a man and his 7-year-old daughter in Salinas this afternoon in what police are calling a random and unprovoked attack. The victim, a 35-year-old male, was driving in his pickup truck with his 7-year-old daughter shortly after 1 p.m. when he made a u-turn at Gaviota Drive and Cachuma Court, according to police.

Four suspects were driving in a gray BMW on Gaviota as he made the turn, and the right front passenger opened fire with a large caliber semi-automatic pistol, police said. Four rounds struck the pickup but the man and his daughter escaped unharmed. The victim is not a gang member, and did not speak with the suspects. Police said in a statement that the shooting appeared to be “random and unprovoked,”
