Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man in the leg in Watsonville on Wednesday afternoon. Shortly before 4 p.m., a shooting was reported near the Resetar Residential Hotel at 15 W. Lake Ave., police said. Officers located a 28-year-old male victim with one gunshot wound in his lower left leg. The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
Police later determined that the shooting occurred at 23 W. Lake Ave. According to police, witnesses said the victim was walking on the sidewalk in front of several stores when the lone gunman began shooting. The gunman then ran through a nearby parking lot and fled the scene. The shooting may be gang-related, police said. Police said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s. He was last seen wearing dark-colored shorts and a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, with the hood pulled over his head.
