An 8-year-old girl who was fatally shot in East Oakland on Wednesday night would have been a third-grader at Fruitvale Elementary School in the fall, an Oakland schools spokesman said today. Troy Flint, of the Oakland Unified School District, identified the girl as Alaysha Carradine. Oakland police said Alaysha was one of four people hit by gunfire when someone fired shots into an apartment at 3440 Wilson St. in the city’s Dimond District at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The other three victims are all listed in stable condition at hospitals. Flint said one of the other people who was shot was 7-year-old Amara York, who is scheduled to start second grade at Fruitvale Elementary School this fall. Police said the other victims are a woman and a 4-year-old boy, but haven’t released their names. Investigators have also not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
This morning, there were seven bullet holes in the screen door of the apartment where the shooting happened. That unit is one of five apartments at the white two-story building on Wilson Street, just east of Interstate Highway 580 near Fruitvale Avenue.
