Daniel Richard Medina Allegedly Kidnaps Girfriend, Threatens Bystanders with Gun at Extended Stay America Hotel in San Ramon

A man was arrested at a San Ramon hotel this morning after he allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his ex-girlfriend brandished a gun at bystanders who attempted to help her, according to police. The victim, an 18-year-old Sacramento resident, was staying at the Extended Stay America hotel at 18000 San Ramon Valley Boulevard this morning around 7:30 a.m. when she agreed to go for a ride with the suspect, Daniel Richard Medina, according to police.
Medina, 24, and the victim have a child together. In the vehicle, Medina allegedly threatened the victim with a handgun and held her against her will. The victim persuaded him to drive back to the hotel, where she attempted to get help from office staff.
However, Medina allegedly dragged her away by her hair and pistol-whipped her, and then brandished his firearm at two witnesses who attempted to intervene, police said. Police detained Medina and found the gun was in his vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, domestic battery and use of a firearm. The victim declined medical attention.
