Oakland police today released the names of two men who were fatally shot on Thursday in the city’s first homicides in two weeks. The man who was shot to death while riding a bicycle in the 9800 block of A Street near International Boulevard at about 5:32 a.m. on Thursday was identified by police spokeswoman Johnna Watson as 24-year-old Kyal Porter of Oakland.

The man who was killed in a drive-by shooting as he was leaving a friend’s house in the 8300 block of Hillside Street at about 3:15 p.m. on Thursday was identified as 19-year-old William Ward. The two fatal shootings were the first homicides since June 12, when 22-year-old Aya Nakano of Emeryville was fatally shot on Market Street near Stanford Avenue by two suspects who had rear-ended his car.

No one has been arrested in that killing and Nakano’s family announced on Tuesday that it’s offering a $35,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Watson said it’s been determined that a man who collapsed and died during a fight with another man in the backyard of a house in the 6300 block of MacArthur Boulevard at about 9:30 a.m.

Thursday wasn’t the victim of a homicide because an autopsy revealed no signs of trauma. She identified the man as 34-year-old Jason Hughes of Oakland. Authorities believe Hughes died from an existing medical condition or another medical problem.
