Marcos Gonzalez 18-year-old Salinas gang member was arrested for possession alleged loaded handgun in Watsonville

An 18-year-old Salinas gang member was arrested for possession of a loaded handgun in Watsonville Tuesday, according to police. At about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday an officer stopped a sliver 2002 Honda Accord driven by Marcos Gonzalez in the 100 block of E. Front Street for a vehicle code violation, police said. The officer noticed that Gonzalez was trembling and nervous. Gonzalez admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle.

Police detained him without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded and concealed .45 caliber handgun under the driver’s seat, police said. A record check of the firearm revealed that the firearm was reported stolen out of Salinas. Gonzalez was identified as a gang member out of Monterey County, according to police. He was taken into custody and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm in public, gang participation and for being in possession of stolen property, police said.
