A San Jose man was injured earlier today after a hit and run driver struck his vehicle on U.S. Highway 101 in Novato, according to the California Highway Patrol. San Jose resident Patrice Calhoun, 46, was driving in the fast lane on northbound Highway 101 just before noon in a silver 2004 Lexus ES330 when the collision occurred, Officer Andrew Barclay said.
Witnesses said a newer model red pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet or Ford, towing a black open-top box trailer, traveled left from the slow lane across all four lanes and struck the Lexus, Barclay said. The collision caused the Lexus to fishtail, hit the center divider and then overturn.
The pickup truck fled the scene and was last seen traveling north on Highway 101. It took Novato firefighters 20 minutes to extricate Calhoun from the wreck, and he was transported to Marin General Hospital with moderate injuries.
