A white granular substance that was found in a Bank of America in Tiburon on Monday was likely salt or sugar, a Tiburon fire battalion chief said today. About four tablespoons of the granular substance was found on the floor near the rear entrance to the bank at 1601 Tiburon Blvd. on Monday morning, Battalion Chief Mike Ayers said.
The substance was swept aside, but a bank manager decided later in the afternoon to have the substance checked out, Ayers said. The Tiburon Fire Department responded around 5 p.m. and removed the entire amount of the substance. “It was not giving off gas and there were no ill effects,” Ayers said. The bank was never evacuated and the substance was sent to a county hazardous materials team for testing, Ayers said. “We have not heard yet what it was,” he said.
