Novato police arrested a man suspected of annoying a girl walking to school Thursday morning after he was found near the school this morning, a police sergeant said. The 17-year-old girl was walking to the Hill Education Center at 720 Diablo Avenue around 8:40 a.m. today when she saw the suspect in his vehicle in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue, Sgt. Jay Demski said.
She told responding officers today the man was the suspect who pulled alongside her in a vehicle near First Street and Mirabella Avenue on Thursday. The girl said she ignored the man when he tried to talk to her on Thursday, but he got out of his vehicle and tugged her shirt when she walked past him, Sgt. Nick Frey said. The girl reported the incident to school officials who called police.
Police searched the area Thursday but did not find him then. After the girl pointed him out this morning in a parking lot at 809 Diablo Ave., police identified the man as 34-year-old Ergin Reyes-Mazariegos of Novato, Demski said. He was arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child under 18, Demski said.
