A man was arrested after allegedly knocking another man unconscious and snatching his cellphone in Petaluma this morning, according to police. Police said officers were called to the area of Lakeville and Madison streets around 9:35 a.m. on reports of a strong-arm robbery. Officers arriving on the scene located the victim, an employee at a local business, who said he had been knocked unconscious and had his cellphone stolen, according to police.
After waking up, the victim was unable to tell police which way the suspect fled after the robbery. However, a citizen in the area reported seeing a possible suspect entering a home on Wilson Street, police said. Officers went to the address and located 44-year-old Aaron Graves of Petaluma, whom the victim positively identified as the man who had assaulted and robbed him, police said.
Graves was arrested on suspicion of robbery and for an alleged probation violation and was taken to Sonoma County Jail. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was treated for wounds to his face and released.
