An alleged street gang member was arrested after gang task force members made a traffic stop and located a gun in his possession in Watsonville Friday evening, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s officials said. Gang task force members made the traffic stop at about 6:50 p.m. in the 500 block of South Green Valley Road, according to sheriff’s officials. James Cruz, 22, of Watsonville, was driving recklessly, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies approached Cruz, they found a concealed loaded revolver in his pants pocket, officials said. Cruz was observed acting suspiciously, according to officials. He was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of possession of carrying a loaded concealed firearm on his person and in a vehicle. The weapon is the 11th firearm seized by the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force this year.
