Randel Clark Bragg Arrested for Allegedly Sending Sexually Explicit Texts to Child

A man was arrested in Scotts Valley Friday after allegedly sending sexually explicit text messages to a high school student, according to police. Officers learned Wednesday that a suspicious man had been spotted at Scotts Valley High, police said. When confronted by a school employee, the man said he was hoping to hand a bag of baked goods to two students he knew, according to police. Detectives investigated the incident and identified the man as Randel Clark Bragg, 51, of Scotts Valley, police said.

Investigators learned Bragg knew the two female students through family connections, and had been texting one of them, police said. Police reviewed the student’s cellphone and found messages to her from Bragg that contained sexually explicit content, according to police. Bragg was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of distributing harmful material to a minor for the purpose of sexual desires; communicating with a minor for the purpose of committing a criminal offense; distributing harmful material to a minor and annoying children under 14 years old.
