A Hayward woman who was arrested by Fremont police in connection with the robbery of a man last month is scheduled to appear in court next Friday. Kamaljit Ghag, 20, of Hayward, is believed to have robbed a 38-year-old man on the evening of April 29, according to police. The man was at Wells Fargo Bank, at 392665 Paseo Padre Parkway, attempting to use an ATM when Ghag allegedly approached him from behind and demanded his money, police said.
The suspect told the man she had a gun, which was in her right hand in her sweater pocket. She took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the area, police said. Fifteen minutes prior to the ATM robbery, police learned Ghag attempted to steal an iPhone from a 47-year-old man who was walking in the area of Liberty Street and Capitol Avenue, police said.
Video surveillance and other leads led to Ghag being identified as the suspect in both cases, and on Wednesday, she was arrested in Hayward, according to police. At the time of her arrest, Ghag was in possession of the driver’s license and social security card of a 33-year-old woman, police said.
The woman told police her purse was stolen while in Berkeley two weeks prior. Ghag was charged with felony robbery and two counts of felony possession of stolen property on Thursday. Ghag is scheduled to appear in court May 17. She is being held in lieu of $90,000 bail.
