A Vallejo man is behind bars after being arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after an eight-hour standoff at a home in unincorporated Vallejo, Solano County Sheriff’s officials said. The sheriff’s office received a report of a sexual assault that had just occurred in the 100 block of Hugh Street in unincorporated Vallejo around 1 p.m. Thursday, sheriff’s officials said. An investigation into the report led deputies to a home in the 100 block of Skyway Drive in an attempt to locate the suspect.
After arriving, deputies realized that the suspect was inside the home and was refusing to come out. After numerous attempts to get the suspect out of the home, and fearing that he may be armed, the sheriff’s emergency response team was also called to the scene, officials said. Sheriff’s personnel set up a command post near the suspect’s home and a surveillance robot was deployed inside the residence in an attempt to locate the man, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Deputies then tried to force the suspect to surrender by sending tear gas inside the home, but he remained inside. Finally, with the help of a K-9 search team, the suspect was discovered hiding in a crawl space underneath the house, sheriff’s officials said. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Deron Jennings of Vallejo, was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries in connection with the standoff. He was released from the hospital and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of rape, false imprisonment, child endangerment and burglary, according to the sheriff’s office. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
