A man who was killed in a shooting in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood on Saturday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 43-year-old Rodel Sarmiento, of Daly City. Sarmiento was driving west on Chanslor Avenue near 18th Street at about 7:10 a.m. when someone shot him multiple times from outside the vehicle, Richmond police Lt. Darren Monahan said.
Sarmiento lost control of his car and drove into the side of a house in the 1800 block of Chanslor Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Monahan said. It is still unknown whether Sarmiento was the intended target, and police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
