Police Search for Vehicle at Scene of Attempted Kidnapping in Pittsburg

ID #13-154

Pittsburg police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver of a vehicle that was captured by a nearby surveillance camera just minutes before a man attempted to kidnap a two-year-old girl from a front yard on Friday afternoon. Police believe the vehicle captured by the surveillance camera near the scene of the attempted kidnapping is similar to a Ford Explorer. Police are actively looking to speak with the driver, who was in the vicinity at the time of the attempted kidnapping, Lt. Ron Raman said.

The driver of the vehicle may have witnessed the attempted kidnapping or may not have been involved in the incident at all, Raman said. Police also released a sketch of the man who tried to grab the girl and are asking the public for any information regarding the suspect’s identity. Based on the police investigation, the two-year-old girl was with her mother in the front yard of a home in the 300 block of Snow Flake Way at 1:45 p.m. on Friday when the suspect picked up the girl and started running. Raman said the suspect got about 50 feet away from the house but was startled when the girl’s mother yelled after him and he dropped the girl into some bushes.

The girl is “traumatized” but otherwise unharmed, Raman said. The suspect is described as a white man about 30 years old with blond hair. He was last seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans, police said. Officers have contacted the residents in the California Seasons Housing complex, where the incident occurred, to attain information regarding the suspect’s identity and whereabouts. Police are also canvassing surrounding residences and businesses, distributing sketches and fliers, printed in English and Spanish.
