Authorities are searching the waters near the Vallejo Municipal Marina for a missing boater who is a San Francisco sheriff’s deputy, a Vallejo police lieutenant said. The search began after the 26-foot vessel was found unoccupied and adrift near the marina around 6:45 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Heather Lampert said. The missing boater associated with the vessel is a San Francisco sheriff’s deputy who is on his day off, San Francisco sheriff’s spokeswoman Susan Fahey said.

Lampert said the boat had keys in the ignition and there was a cellphone onboard. “It shows someone was recently aboard,” she said. Vallejo police Lt. Kenny Park said the deputy’s wallet was also found on the fishing boat. Police contacted the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department and a family member trying to get in touch with the deputy or someone who would know his whereabouts. Park said Vallejo police are treating the man’s disappearance as a missing persons case. He said it is not a criminal case. A Coast Guard helicopter crew has been searching the water for the deputy. A dive team was in the water as of 2:30 p.m., Lampert said. Solano County sheriff’s deputies are assisting, Park said.
