Police arrested one of two suspects following a foot pursuit in Watsonville Friday evening, according to police. At about 6:30 p.m., an officer on patrol in the 400 block of Beck Street attempted to stop two suspects who were behaving strangely, police said. Police said one of the suspects, Jimmy Espinoza, 32, was hiding from police behind a vehicle that was parked on Beck Street.
When the officer got out of his patrol vehicle to make contact with the suspects, Espinoza and the second suspect fled on foot. The officer chased the two suspects on foot for several blocks, police said. The suspects ran into an apartment complex located at 490 Beck St. where the patrol officer cornered Espinoza and took him into custody. Officers were unable to locate the second suspect, but are conducting an investigation into his identity.
When officers returned to the area where Espinoza had originally been hiding, they found crystal methamphetamine and a stolen handgun loaded with bullets. Espinoza is a documented gang member and is on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
