Santa Rosa police arrested three men Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a Los Angeles man who was selling stereo speakers from his vehicle, a police sergeant said. The Los Angeles man was selling the speakers in the parking lot of a shopping center in Rohnert Park Tuesday when he was approached by 25-year-old Curtis Tornai of Santa Rosa, Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.
The speaker salesman agreed to follow Tornai and a passenger in Tornai’s vehicle, later identified as 29-year-old Anthony Merciari of Santa Rosa, to Santa Rosa where he believed the two men would buy some speakers, Linscomb said. At an apartment complex at 2001 Piner Road in Santa Rosa, Loren Uriarte, 25, a resident of the apartment complex, pointed a gun at the salesman and said he was going to take his merchandise, Linscomb said.
The salesman fled in fear and called 911, Linscomb said, and when he returned to his vehicle he discovered the three suspects had taken a set of speakers. Based on information about the suspects’ vehicle, police went to an address on Flower Avenue in southeast Santa Rosa and saw Tornai and Uriarte leave a residence with three other men, Linscomb said.
The three suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the Sonoma County Jail, Linscomb said. The gun believed to have been used during the robbery and several pounds of marijuana were recovered during a search of Uriarte’s residence, Linscomb said.
