A man on court-ordered release from the Santa Cruz County Superior Court was arrested for being in possession of a firearm during a routine search Saturday in Watsonville, a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s sergeant said. The Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force conducted a search of a room at the Resotar Hotel, located at 15 West Lake Avenue in Watsonville, at about 7:50 p.m., Sgt. Stefan Fish said. Rene Lara, 39, was found in the room in possession of a loaded firearm, Fish said.

Lara had been on court-ordered release related to a May 2012 possession of a loaded firearm and drug sales arrest, according to Fish. Earlier in the week, Lara was found with another man, Manuel Cabazuela, who was arrested for being in possession of a loaded firearm, Fish said. Fish said Lara wasn’t arrested in that previous incident, but he was arrested Saturday night. He was later booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
