Law enforcement agencies from Sonoma and Marin counties are searching for a suspect in west Marin County who allegedly stole a vehicle and led police on a pursuit this morning. California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay said the CHP was informed at 6:30 a.m. that a man in his 20s or 30s stole a vehicle in Sonoma County and drove into Marin County on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road.
Barclay said the CHP was told the man might have committed another crime before the vehicle was stolen. The suspect abandoned the vehicle around 7:50 a.m. in Woodacre and fled into the hilly and forested area that contains many fire trails, Barclay said. Authorities have set up a command post this morning at Central Avenue and Park Street in Woodacre, Barclay said.
The stolen vehicle had been tracked by the OnStar navigation system, he said. A fixed-wing plane from the CHP searched the area until weather conditions worsened and it was grounded, Barclay said.
