Two men were charged this week in connection with the December murder of a San Pablo couple, police and Contra Costa County Superior Court officials said. Pedro Garcia, 18, of Oakland was charged Tuesday with the Dec. 9 murder of Edgar Carpano and Blanca Arguetta, both 30, according to police Lt. Jeff Palmieri and court documents. Garcia is scheduled to appear in court in Richmond Friday afternoon for arraignment. Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on the 1800 block of Powell Street shortly before 1 a.m., Palmieri said. Garcia allegedly shot the couple and both were found dead from gunshot wounds, Palmieri said.

The couple’s four-year-old daughter was inside the apartment during the incident but was unharmed, Palmieri said. She was placed under Child Protective Services and is now living with family in the Bay Area, Palmieri said. The San Pablo Police Department’s Investigations Division conducted interviews and obtained search and arrest warrants for six individuals served on March 27, Palmieri said. Evidence obtained from the warrants led investigators to Garcia and his alleged accomplice Kevin Benavides, 18, of San Pablo. Both men were booked at Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez, Palmieri said. The pair also face charges for possession of narcotics and firearms unrelated to the Dec. 9 murder, Palmieri said. Contra Costa County prosecutors this week charged Benavides with being an accessory after the fact. He is set to appear in court in Richmond on April 12.
