Suspect in Robbery and Shooting Arrested in Oakland

A suspect who allegedly robbed and shot a victim in East Oakland on Wednesday evening has been arrested, police said. Oakland police said that at about 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday, an Oakland police officer was on a traffic stop in the 1200 block of 39th Avenue when he heard a gunshot. The officer saw a suspect running on nearby International Boulevard and began investigating, according to police.

Witnesses directed the officer to a man who was running southbound on 40th Avenue and a perimeter was set up by responding officers, police said. The suspect, an Oakland man, was safely detained in the perimeter and a firearm was recovered, police said. The shooting victim was located on International Boulevard and was transported to a local hospital but is expected to survive, according to police. Authorities said it appears that the motive for the shooting was armed robbery but they we are continuing to investigate the incident.
