Residents and merchants in part of San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood are sheltering in place this morning as a bomb squad investigates a suspicious object, a police spokesman said. The object was found near a trash can in the area of Eighth Avenue and California Street at about 9:15 a.m.
The bomb squad was called in and streets were closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said. No evacuations were ordered, but those in the immediate area were told to shelter in place, he said. San Francisco Municipal Railway bus service has been rerouted.
