A suspicious device found in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood this morning has been deemed harmless, a police spokesman said. The object was found near a trash can in the area of Eighth Avenue and California Street at about 9:15 a.m. Residents and merchants were told to shelter in place while the bomb squad responded, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Around 11 a.m., the device was determined not to pose a threat and the shelter-in-place order was lifted, Shyy said. Although there were no evacuations, streets were closed and San Francisco Municipal Railway bus service was rerouted.
