A San Carlos man was arrested for prowling over the weekend after he was allegedly caught trying to break into a home where a woman was preparing Easter baskets, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. The 39-year-old woman had been in a back room of her home in the 100 block of Beverly Drive when she heard her bedroom window opening just before midnight on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office. She went into the room to see what was going on and allegedly saw the suspect staring back at her, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman closed the window and called 911. Responding deputies established a perimeter around the woman’s residence and quickly found the suspect, who was identified as 35-year-old David Russell Speiser, the sheriff’s office said. Speiser was arrested for attempted burglary, prowling and peeping. He was booked at San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He has since posted bail. The sheriff’s office reminded residents to be sure windows and doors are locked at night and to call 911 to report suspicious behavior. c
