A woman is dead from a stabbing in San Jose this afternoon near Santa Clara County’s main government building, a police spokesman said. The stabbing was reported at 2:37 p.m. in the 900 block of North First Street at West Hedding Street, just east of the County Government Center at 70 W. Hedding St., police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said. The victim, who was stabbed multiple times, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., Dwyer said.
The stabbing took place in a parking lot outside of an apartment complex. Dwyer said investigators did not yet know the motive for the killing. The male suspect fled and had not been found as of 3:45 p.m. Police shut down nearby streets and were looking for him in the area. Staff at Burnett Middle School, located at 850 N. Second St., have been put on lockdown during the search, school officials said. Students at the school were already released for the day at 2 p.m.
