A suspect in a fatal stabbing made his initial appearance in court today, just days after his alleged victim was found dead in an affluent area of San Jose. Vincent Gallegos, 20, is accused of stabbing 27-year-old Errick Wright to death. Wright’s body was found just before 4 p.m. Wednesday in Guadalupe Oak Grove Park in San Jose’s Almaden Valley neighborhood. Gallegos has been charged with one count of murder with the use of a knife, Deputy District Attorney Brian Welch said.
The use of a knife enhancement could add a year to his sentence if convicted. The suspect has been assigned an attorney by the public defender’s office but the statement of facts in his statement remains sealed because there is still an active investigation into the case. Gallegos is scheduled to return to court before Judge Daniel T. Nishigaya on March 22.
