A 42-year-old man who allegedly stole several items from a Petaluma grocery store was arrested today following a police pursuit. An officer was traveling north on South McDowell Boulevard in the area of Baywood Drive at about 4:10 a.m. when the officer saw a black Dodge Neon traveling south in the northbound lanes without its headlights on. The officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop and a pursuit began.
The pursuit went though a neighborhood until the suspect, Armando Rafael Afre, stopped on the corner of Beechwood Drive and Conifer Lane, police said. Afre didn’t comply with officers’ commands and left the Dodge. He allegedly became physically combative. Officers stunned him with a Taser. One officer received minor injures. Afre was taken into custody and booked into jail on suspicion of evading an officer, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer, burglary and driving on a suspended license. His bail was set at $15,000.
