A SWAT team surrounded a home in East Oakland overnight after a shooting in another part of the city on Monday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said today. Officers witnessed a non-injury shooting near East 22nd Street and 23rd Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said. Investigators then found a vehicle in the area of 88th Avenue and Birch Street that had been involved in the shooting, and learned that the shooting suspects were inside a home in that neighborhood, Watson said.

Authorities attempted to talk to the suspects believed to be holed up inside the residence but were unable to make contact with them, police said. At some point this morning, a search warrant was served and the SWAT team and personnel from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and FBI entered the home. Authorities detained several suspects and recovered firearms. Police have not said how many people were arrested. A resident of the 1800 block of 88th Avenue said her block and nearby streets were closed from around 5 p.m. Monday until 2 a.m. today because of the police activity. “No one could leave the house,” she said. The scene was cleared at 5:30 a.m., according to police.
