San Jose Police Homicide Detectives have arrested a third suspect in the April, 2010 gang related murder of Jose Antonio Vega Calderon. On 2/22/2013 at approximately 1:30 P.M., the San Jose Police Department’s Covert Response Unit arrested Suspect Carlos Ruiz Paz as he was en route to an unrelated court appearance. Paz had a no-bail warrant for murder. Paz was booked into jail and remains in custody.
The homicide occurred on April 21st, 2010 at the corner of W. San Carlos street and Willard Avenue in San Jose. The three suspects attacked the victim and during the attack, the victim was stabbed and shot. The victim was transported to Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 P.M. The investigation has revealed that the homicide was gang motivated. During their investigation, detectives identified Jose Torres and Alvaro Ochoa as suspects. The San Jose Police Department’s MERGE Unit took Jose Torres into custody on 4/22/2010. The MERGE Unit also took Alvaro Ochoa into custody on May 5th, 2010. Both suspects have remained in custody since their arrests.
“Although this case occurred almost three years ago, our detectives stayed on it with persistence,” said SJPD Homicide Unit Commander Michael Kihmm. “The victim’s family, the community, and I are grateful for Sergeant Paul Kelly’s and Detective John Barg’s excellent work in getting these suspects off the streets.”
