The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is looking for three men in connection with the armed robberies of two markets that took place 20 minutes apart Thursday morning. At about 8:40 a.m., three men, two wearing gloves and masks and at least one pointing a handgun, entered a market at 336 San Juan Grade Road near Salinas, sheriff’s deputies said. The men robbed the store only of a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey after failing to steal any cash, deputies said.
The next robbery took place at around 9 a.m., when three men matching the description of suspects in the previous robbery walked into a store at 2016 Elkhorn Road within the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Sanctuary near Castroville, deputies said. This time the suspects did not wear masks or gloves, but two of them had handguns. They robbed the store of cash, alcohol and the store clerk’s wallet, deputies said.
The suspects are described as Hispanic men, one with a thin build wearing a black hoodie and black pants, one with a husky build in a black hoodie and pants and one who was thin and wore a white Chicago Bulls hat and a gray jacket with black sleeves and pants.
