Oakland police have surrounded a home in the 6400 block of Shattuck Avenue this afternoon believed to harbor a shooting suspect or suspects. The shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m., when gunshots were heard in the area of Broadway and West MacArthur Boulevard, according to police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson. One victim was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said. Community members at the scene were able to provide suspect and vehicle descriptions, and investigators tracked suspects to the area on Shattuck that is now surrounded, Watson said.

A SWAT team and others have been called in to deal with what is being treated as a barricaded suspect. The surrounding area has been shut down and residents evacuated, Watson said. Police also detained two people in connection with the shooting earlier today, Watson said. One was found to be unconnected to the shooting and released.
