Five people were arrested Sunday night in unincorporated Monterey County after a search of their vehicle discovered two shotguns and methamphetamine, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies spotted a blue Honda Pilot on Old Stage Road near Hebert Road at 11:13 p.m. that was unable to stay in its lane and nearly collided with oncoming traffic, the sheriff’s office said.

They pulled over the vehicle in the 500 block of Old Stage Road for a DUI traffic stop. Deputies noticed a shotgun on the rear passenger floorboard and had all five occupants in the car get out. A search revealed two shotguns, one loaded with three 1-ounce slugs and three shells with pellets. The other was a 14-inch sawed-off shotgun loaded with a 1-ounce slug, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies also found drug paraphernalia and over one gram of methamphetamine. The occupants of the Pilot, identified as Carlos Meza, Ofelia Gonzalez, Raul Hernandez, Claudia Hernandez, and Jessica Aguirre, are believed to be active Soreno gang members or associates, the sheriff’s office said. They were booked into Monterey County Jail on numerous weapons and gang charges.
