A man was arrested after allegedly plowing into a mother and her two young children at a crosswalk in Pittsburg on Monday evening and then fleeing the scene, police said today. Officers responded around 5:45 p.m. to reports of a hit-and-run collision involving pedestrians near the intersection of Crestview Drive and Leland Road, Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said.
Police located the victims, a 29-year-old woman walking with her 1-year-old in a stroller and her 7-year-old daughter on a bicycle, Raman said. All three were transported to a hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Both children have since been released but the woman remained in the hospital this morning for observation, the lieutenant said. Using multiple witness descriptions of the vehicle and driver — the car’s only occupant — police quickly located the suspect car just a few blocks away.
A short time later, officers found the driver, identified as 24-year-old Pittsburg man Noe Delgado. Delgado was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $50,000 bail. Raman said investigators do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision and police are still trying to determine how fast the suspect was driving at the time of the crash.
