A San Jose man was arrested early today on suspicion of murder in the death of a 55-year-old man at a home in Hollister in San Benito County, a spokesman for the Hollister Police Department said. John Neuer, 63, was booked into the San Benito County Jail on suspicion of murder after police answered a report of dead man at a residence on Morey Circle at about 1 a.m., police Capt. Dave Westrick said.

The Hollister Fire Department, also dispatched to the residence, examined the man and pronounced him dead at the scene, Westrick said. Neuer was inside the home with the deceased man when police arrived, Westrick said. Police took Neuer into custody after determining the victim’s death appeared suspicious, said Westrick, who declined to describe how the man may have died.

“We’re still looking at a number of things about (Neuer) and the victim,” he said. An autopsy will be performed on the victim by the San Benito County coroner’s office, Westrick said. “A lot of questions need to be answered,” he said. The name of deceased man was not released pending notification of family members.
