Carnell Taylor Jr. Arrested for Alleged Murder of Jamal Gaines in San Francisco

Police arrested a suspect Wednesday night in connection with the fatal shooting of a San Francisco man on Jan. 19 in the city’s Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood. At about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, San Francisco Police Homicide Investigators and the Violence Reduction Team, arrested 24-year-old Carnell Taylor Jr. in the 700 block of Pacific Street in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Jamal Gaines.

Gaines was driving a black four-door vehicle on Post Street, near Fillmore Street on Jan. 19. around 5:30 p.m. when the suspect fired multiple shots at him, according to Officer Gordon Shyy. The victim attempted to drive away, but his car crashed into a parked vehicle, police said. The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 6:15 p.m. The suspect fled westbound on Post Street on foot, police said. Taylor Jr. was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, police said.
