Five people were arrested for allegedly assaulting a man at a Novato motel and trying to drag him into a van early this morning, police said. Police were called to the America’s Best Value Inn at 7600 Redwood Blvd. at about 2 a.m. When officers arrived, several people were assaulting a male victim and trying to drag him into a van, police said. Police officers and Marin County sheriff’s deputies later stopped the van near U.S. Highway 101 and Alameda Del Prado, Novato police Sgt. Nick Frey said. The suspects were arrested around 3:20 a.m., according to the Marin County jail booking log. Officers found narcotics, stolen property, identity theft documents and burglary tools in the van, Frey said. Police identified the suspects as Indugo Williams, 20; Myia Simmons, 23; Karen Jackson-Greer, 48; James Ahrenholz, 23 and Randy Martin, 24. All five are Novato residents, police said.

They were booked into the Marin County jail on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy, battery, and possession of stolen property, burglary tools, narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Investigators have interviewed the man who was the victim of the
kidnapping attempt, as well as a female victim, Frey said. Both are Marin County residents. Police have released few details about the case, saying they are still trying to sort out exactly what happened. Frey said police are not disclosing the relationship between the suspects and victims, and that the man who was assaulted suffered only minor injuries.
