Mendocino County Sheriff’s Press Release 1/30/13
On 01-29-2013 at 2214 hours Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Gualala for a report of a drive by shooting. Family members of the victim had reported to dispatch that the victim had been shot in the face while standing in the front yard of her residence.
An on-duty Sonoma County resident Deputy Sheriff heard the call being dispatched to Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies and responded to the scene to assist. The Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff arrived first and was able to obtain a description of the suspect vehicle. The Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff was familiar with the vehicle seen leaving the scene and knew it to be associated with Lamont Salgado. The Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff knew Salgado to reside on the Kashia Reservation in Stewarts Point (Sonoma County).
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and located 2 expended shotgun casings in the road where the suspect(s) had fired from. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies interviewed witnesses and processed the scene for additional evidence.
Around 0010 hours Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies advised that they had located the suspect vehicle, an older model sedan, on Skaggs Springs Road east of Stewarts Point. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies then responded to the location to assist.
Observed inside the suspect vehicle were several expended shotgun shells, which matched the shells, located in the street at the shooting scene.
During witness interviews Deputies learned that Salgado and Ochoa had been in care and control of the suspect vehicle.
Upon further investigations both Salgado and Ochoa were located inside of a residence near where the vehicle was parked. They were both taken into custody for Conspiracy and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
A shotgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was recovered from a separate nearby residence.
The victim was transported to a hospital by air ambulance and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Salgado and Ochoa were both transported to the Mendocino County Jail where they were booked to be held in lieu of $40,000.00 bail individually.
